Electrical Terms Defined
Direct Current -electron flow in one direction only. Usually supplied through a battery. Alternating current - electron flow along a conductor, first in one direction and then in the other. due to it changinging from one direction to another it is called alternating current.
Circuit - completed electron flow pathway . Volt - electromotive force, or emf, is the idicator of electrical pressure available to push electrons through a conductor. Ampere- rate of flow of current. Watts- measure of electrical power Resistors -impead the flow of free electrons Series circuit- circuit having a single path for electrons to flow through Parallel circuit- circuit having two or more paths for elctrons to flow through Electron flow -electrons always move from negative (-)to positive (+) Solenoid - electrow magnet used to open and close valves or contacts Capacitor - stores electricity (free electrons)measured in farads or microfarad Diodes - allow flow of electrons in one direction only Rectifiers - electronic valves permitting electrons to flow only in one direction only, they change AC to DC Inverter - changes Direct current into Alternating current Sensors -solid state semiconductor material that controls electron flow as its temperature or pressure changes Thermistors - solid state semiconductor material that allows less electron flow through as its temperature increases. Transducers- responds by controlling the intensity of some other forms of energy and may be operated by pressure, temperature, fluid flow, vibrations, electrical potential, and other means. Thermocouple - used to measure temperatures or operate controls. Switch- any device that opens and closes a circuit is called a switch Conductors / wires - The capacity of the wire(conductor) depends on the diameter of the wire. The larger the diameter the larger the ability to carry more current.
Breakers and corresponding conductors 15 and 20 ampere outlets should be supplied with No.12 wire How to check voltage video 30 ampere outlets should be supplied with No 10 wire 40 ampere outlets should be supplied with No 8 wire
